History of the Shrouded Phoenix
For generations, the Phoenix of Ashla have been defenders and protectors of the weak and innocent. They travel Hydaelyn and share a message of peace. While they sought peace for all of Hydaelyn, Phoenix of Ashla has many talented members in the arts of magic and the blade. Though, anyone who wishes to aid the goal of peace for everyone is welcomed. In the year 1475, Ashla Trouvé of house Durendaire was branded a heretic by the Holy See of Ishgard. On the surface, charges were made against her for consorting and aiding heretics sympathetic with the dragon horde that had infiltrated the City. Not quite able to believe these accusations, rumors had begun to spread that the church had caught wind of her personal beliefs that the common folk of Ishgard should be treated equally and fairly compared to the nobility. The upper classmen could not stand for such rhetoric to be spread from such a sympathetic noblewoman, for it was well known that she had spent much of her personal fortune improving the lives of the common folk. Charged nominally with the high crime of heresy and treason, she was burned at the stake shortly after her arrest. The knights loyal to Ashla Trouvé were targeted by the nobility of Ishgard next. The knights and their families knew they had to escape Ishgard or they would share the same fate as their beloved Ashla Trouvé.
The common folk, who had not forgotten the sacrifice that Ashla and her knights had made, assisted as many of them as possible to smuggle them out of Ishgard. Those who were not as lucky were executed. These surviving knights traveled towards the Black Shroud, in the year 1476. By the end of that year, they had journeyed through the forest and decided to settle on the peninsula next to the Rothlyt Sound. The first night in their new home, the remaining knights took an oath to dedicate their lives to Ashla's memory and teachings. They took the name Phoenix of Ashla to pay homage to her. Rennir Jeannin, the elder knight, was chosen to lead the Phoenix of Ashla as the Elder Guardian.Phoenix of Ashla traveled to nearby towns to help the common folks. They helped those who sought to pass through the Black Shroud. If they came across someone who had suffered or needed help, they would be there to provide aid. The Phoenix of Ashla spread the words of peace and harmony amongst all people of Eorzean. They were also skilled warriors with both blade and magic.
Part of their beliefs where to protect the innocent and defend those who were mistreated by the powerful. In the beginning, Phoenix of Ashla was small. As words of their deeds began to spread across Eorzea, people from various backgrounds, commoners to nobility, sought out the group to join the cause. Their small camp had grown into a small town that they named after their patron, Ashla. For generations, families passed the traditions of the Phoenix of Ashla to their children. In 1572, as the fate of Eorzea hung in the balance, Phoenix of Ashla sent their knights and healers to the battle of Carteneau. When the Dreadwyrm, Bahamut, was released from his prison and released his carnage around the region, almost all the knights and healers were killed. The Elder Guardian was one of those casualties. A handful of the survivors made the journey back to Ashla. After the Calamity, despite no surviving leadership, members were not ready to see the light of the Phoenix of Ashla fade in the darkness. The remaining members left their homes in Ashla, to seek out those they could help, and those who may want to join the cause. In particular, McCay Jones set out with his adopted sister, Mylysia.A few weeks later, McCay and Mylysia found themselves in Limsa Lominsa. Together, they registered a new free company with the Maelstrom under the same name as their Order: Phoenix of Ashla. They hoped that the company would help them find adventurers who were like-minded, and after a time, introduce them to the Order if they were interested.A month passed, and while a few adventurers had joined the company, McCay decided that he would continue his search for recruits on the roads of Eorzea. Before his departure, McCay and Mylysia discussed that Mylysia would receive both ownership of the free company and become the leader of their recovering Order during his absence. Despite Mylysia's own doubts, she knew there was no keeping her brother from leaving, so she accepted her new roles.During the months that followed, the Company continued to grow. Mylysia found new friends within their ranks, and even a budding romance. Believing to have found candidates for the Order, she promoted three trusted members to leadership roles within the Company, and indoctrinated them into the Order. The success was short-lived.A short time after, the three broke their vows and left the Phoenix of Ashla to establish their own free company. The coup had been wrapped in lies and half-truths. The majority of the Company members followed, innocents caught in the middle. Mylysia's romantic interest left her on the claim that he wanted to travel more. It was later discovered that he too had joined with the others.Reeling from the betrayal and lies, Mylysia nearly closed the doors to the Phoenix of Ashla. Only a small handful of members remained, and McCay was still out on the road. She decided to continue leading the company as long as a single member remained. The following weeks were full of bitterness and pain as Mylysia felt as if she had failed, and was afraid of how McCay would react to her failure.Wishing to move on and give the Company a fresh start, Mylysia sold the Company house in The Mist and traveled to New Gridania. She registered the Company with the Twin Adders under a new name to reflect the relocation, The Shrouded Phoenix. Using the funds from the house in The Mist, she purchased a suitable location in the Lavender Beds and worked to reestablish the Company's operations in the area.Mylysia began a new recruitment campaign. It was during this campaign that she first crossed paths with Rasiz'a, and shortly thereafter Ati'yaa. The two quickly rallied to the cause, lending Mylysia their support.McCay returned, citing his delay over the surprise of having returned to The Mist to find everything gone. Mylysia apologized, and welcomed her brother back and into their new home. She caught him up on current events, explaining all that had happened leading up to the change, and found relief and understanding from her brother.Together, they continued the recruitment campaign, and the Company survived to it's first year anniversary.
